Sustainability Vision

The Toray Group considers sustainability to be the most important global issue of the 21st century.
This is due to an interlinked web of global issues that are posing ever-graver problems, including the expected rise of the global population to some ten billion people by 2050; aging demographics on the increase worldwide; and issues such as climate change, water scarcity and resource depletion that are becoming more severe each day.
Since our founding in 1926, we have always believed that materials can change lives, true to our fundamental corporate principle of contributing to society. We make it the Toray Group's mission to deliver innovative technologies and advanced materials that provide real solutions to the challenges the world faces with balancing development and sustainability.
We are convinced that the Toray Group can continue to grow without negatively impacting global sustainability. By delivering on our corporate philosophy of “Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies and products,” we will do our utmost to address global issues, including the goals of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while working closely with our business partners worldwide.

Toray Group Corporate Social Responsibility

Since our founding, the Toray Group has been committed to our management philosophy of contributing to society through our business. We believe that the promotion of CSR is the realization of our management philosophy and address it as one of our top management priorities. At the Toray Group, we set targets based on our own CSR Guidelines and CSR Roadmap and systematically take on matters organization-wide such as corporate ethics and legal compliance, environmental preservation, human rights promotion and human resources development and social contribution to promote CSR activities.
With social issues becoming increasingly diverse in recent years, the Toray Group will contribute to society through our business, play an active role in social development and issue resolution and strive to be a corporate group whose existence is of high value to all stakeholders.
Notably, we announced the Toray Group Sustainability Vision in July 2018, and outlined the Toray Group’s long-term commitment to contributing to solving issues through the creation of innovative technologies and advanced materials. As indicated in this vision, we will work to realize the world as envisioned by the Toray Group in 2050.
